I'm just wondering if anyone is having this problem. I have 2 Nero 3's. I love them for their size and controllability. However they have only been running in the tank for less than 2 weeks and each has stalled at different times. Came home to see the controller blinking red and blue. When I took the pump out it was naturally clean, hasn't been in service for long and the tank is new. But the impeller seems to be impinging on the back housing causing the stall. I freed it up and spun the impeller, put it back together and it is working fine. 2 days later the same thing happened to the other pump. Is this bad luck or a problem?

how quiet would you say the Nero 3 is? If possible how would you compare it to other power heads? (If you’ve had others in the past)

I'm not really that experienced but of the one's I've used these are at least as quiet. My normal sitting place is really up against the tank and I don't notice them to the point where when they were stalled I couldn't tell without visually checking the flow.

I have the same thing happen to mine. I have a Nero3 and it has been doing it since I got it. I also have a Nero5 and the 5 never has this problem. Not really sure why but you aren’t alone for sure. Tbh it gets me to clean the power heads and reminds me to maintain

It is very quiet and strong. I have a Nero3 and Nero5 in my 50gal - one in either side - and the 3 I run max like 40% and it gets the job done. Easy to use app and I also have AI lights so it’s super nice. Would recommend except the do randomly stall like Op mentioned

Thanks for the reply, mine have each stalled once, both have been running since.

I have a 3 and it’s very prone to calcification since they apparently run hot, most likely due to their compact form factor. Once this happens they are almost impossible to disassemble without an acid bath. My $69 hygger pump is far more reliable. Probably what’s going on.

Mine stopped once, blade was blocked. Quick cleaning removed what was bloacking blade. Similar recommendations I got from AI.

Not sure if this was your issue?

I find mine to very quite, I have ran, MP10, Gyre 1K, IM wave link and Nero 5 (downsized tank size) find it to be quieter than the first three mainly. hope this helps I have IM 40.

Running IM wavelink and Nero 3

Thanks, mine was blocked but by the back housing, actually both exactly the same. Since I freed them up they've been good.

I had the same basic issue and they replaced my unit.

Because the AI Nero 3 is garbage imo

Dealing with the same thing (Nero 5), the propeller would get stuck every 3-4 weeks. I have a cheap pump (less than $30) that I use for my reactor and even that doesn't get stuck as often. Too often I would come home to a flashing controller and no flow. I now have to include cleaning this pump as part of my bi-weekly water maintenance. Less than 6 months old.

Interesting, I have a jebao slw 10 which is very similar in design. And it also used to stall on me too. I think the same spot you were referring to is the culprit as well. But for me it was from having a lot of algae in the tank that I was trying to deal with. It was rolling a small amount of algae up into a ball between the front housing and the impeller directly in the middle. Causing a jam and the flashing controller. Is it possible this is your issue as well? Even a tiny little ball that you almost cant see seems severely slow the impeller.

I just picked up a Nero 3 a week ago but haven’t set it up yet. Hopefully it’s not too much of an issue.

I am presently running 1 Nero 3, the other won’t run, it rotates a couple rotations and stops. I have replaced it in my evo tank with a Jebao MLW 5, it’s only been running for a couple of weeks so I’ll have to see long term if it’s my solution. The “running” Nero 3 is working fine in my larger tank.

Have any of you tried any of these resets?

Soft Reset:
The soft reset will power cycle the Nero but not remove any programmed settings.
Steps:
  1. Unplug Nero controller from power for 30 seconds
  2. Plug back into power
Connected Reset: The connected reset power cycles the Nero and clears any programmed settings but retains a connection to myAI.
Steps:
  1. Unplug Nero controller from power for 30 seconds
  2. With power still disconnected, press and hold the controller button
  3. Reconnect power, continue holding the controller button
  4. Release the button as soon as indicator begins flashing green
Factory Reset: The factory reset removes all programmed settings and returns the Nero to factory defaults.
Steps:
  1. Unplug Nero controller power for 30 seconds
  2. With power still disconnected, press and hold the controller button
  3. Reconnect power, continue holding the controller button
  4. Release button once indicator begins flashing red
