I have been running my tank for about 5 months and I just added a birdsnest acro in my tank. I added and reorganize my rock work and I realized there is some dead spots in my tank. I'm running the stock pump with a RFG adapter and everything grows well. I am thinking about adding a smart wave pump, and have been looking at the Nero 5, I know this pump will be overkill for the tank but I will upgrade to a big tank in the future so I can just place the pump there. Has anyone used it in a nano tank? Or any other suggestions?

Here is my tank btw.

It will probably be to strong on its lowest setting. I have a aqamai kps in my evo and it works very well its really small but puts out good flow and its programmable

Yeah, forgot to mention I had my eyes on it too, and it's much cheaper. May I ask what return pump did you use? Are you using any RFG?

I have a Nero 5 in my Evo and it isn’t too much flow for my aquarium. Highest I run it is 35% and it isn’t chaotic. It’s such a wide flow that it’s dispersed evenly.
The one problem I am noticing after running it for months is that one side of the aquarium the side the Nero5 is facing toward it is pushing the glass and stressing the silicon. Still not enough too worry me too much.

It is good to hear you experience with your pump and size tank. Just like the OP, I was looking at getting a Nero 5 in a similar sized 20 gallon AIO (AquaJapan) tank and was worried about it being too much flow. I read a thread (below) about how even at the lowest setting it is pushing like 900gph. I plan on keeping only softies so it might be overkill still, what do you have in your tank?

So the Nero 5 would produce some nice random flow in all directions? Or is it solely one directional?

It might be a tad bit overkill but something that you could potentially justify if you are planning on upgrading to a bigger tank in the future. I did the same thing... picked up a Nero 5 for my IM Nuvo 30L (now upgrading to IM Lagoon 50). I think it should be fine if it’s higher up in the tank and on the lower end of the power (1-5% which is still over 950-1,000 gph).. here are my current settings.

Good to hear, I might go with the KSP if my LFS has one

Sorry these pictures aren’t the best but here is so you can get an idea. I was worried at first it would be too much flow but it all honesty at 35% I could still ramp it up even more. Might be overkill but I’m loving this pump and the flow it provides. Sorry the tank isn’t in picture worthy conditions at the moment!

Thanks!!! I thought it would look bigger in the Fluval but seems okay. I really like the look of it comparing to the kps but the price is twice as much lol

Of course, that is for you to ultimately decide. Pump is great and have had no issues. Isn’t too noticeable and it looks great either way. As for the other question flow I’d directed where you would like to direct it. You can adjust it pretty good to where you would like it.

Does it provide good amount of flow in all directions?

I would say it is depending on the settings and how you want the prime set up but I’m satisfied.
I have read some threads about the Nero 5 killing small fish, I think i am going with the kps, thanks for the info!
