I need to add a powerhead to the back of my Waterbox 130 (4 ft tank). I’m torn between the Nero 5 and the Octo pulse 2. The Nero just seems cooler, and I like the sleekness. But I’ve heard some mixed reviews, and only good things about the Octo.

I actually already have a Gyre xf250 and an MP10 from a previous tank I threw on. I was planning to add a second gyre, I like the idea of two synced pumps. But for whatever reason I can’t find a single xf250 anymore for the life of me. It’s cool though, I don’t mind a mix different powerhead types I guess.

Help me decide please!

I put a Nero on my tank for 24 hours and lost my sea hare that I’ve had for 5 months :/

Ah I’m sorry to hear that. I’ve heard they can be fish death traps, which is not cool at all. What have you done since, do you still use it?

I have a few octopulse 2, they're great.
have one for sale actually if you want to save a little money.

I don't think u can go wrong with the octopulse 2. I currently have one in my system (24" cube) and I can hardly turn it up past the 2nd setting. I have a new system on order 36 x 24 x 20 and will be adding a 2nd octo. The neat thing about the octo (2 & 4) is they can be used with the new Hydro WaveEngine without the controller and power brick. I picked up an octo 2 yesterday (pump-only version) for $149.99-- an $80 discount over the full version. It's going to be really cool running these with the Hydro. GL

I had this same issue about a month ago after a few of my more inexpensive pumps gave out and posted here for some great advice. I ended up narrowing my choices down to the Tunze 6065 or the OctoPulse 2. Well I went with the OctoPulse 2 and can not be any happier. Although Tunze is a great product & has an excellent reputation, I decided on the OctoPulse 2 because with all other factors being comparable and equal, I loved the look of the OctoPulse 2 better. It is solid and very powerful, and also controllable. It’s adjustable and really moves the water without blasting the coral‘s skin off. I have mine installed on the side of my Red Sea 350 (which is 4 feet in length) about 4" below the tank’s water surface at the top. I like you can remove it to clean or reposition it without moving the magnet, as the magnet stays in place. I am now looking to add another one too. I’ve attached some photos I took when I unboxed it for the first time.

Thanks for the tips! I actually ended up going with the Pulse 2, heard too much negative stuff about the Nero5. I just installed it today and super glad I made this choice. Great design, and super clean. Love that you can take it out to clean without pulling the dry magnet off. Also super small and well hidden in corner..

I have the OP4 and think these pumps are the most underrated pumps in the market. The OP4 pushed as much water as my MP60Qd and costs 1/4 of the price. The pump also looks very good, almost as small as my MP40Qd not to mention it allows flow to be directed, contrary to others. I love it

I'm looking for powerhead options for a new tank. Was thinking maybe two of pulse 2's. The tank will be LPS, 4' x 2' x 16". I'm wanting to go with a sleeker look for all aspects of the tank so was thinking these would be a good option because I could put them on the back glass near the ends and angle them to get some good cross flow coming from different angles. Based on anyone's experience think this would work?

Help me guys, I bought a pulse 2 tonight and it tore my tank to shreds. What am I doing wrong? I had it at the lowest setting on stream and it ticked off my torches and looked like my BTA was in a hurricane. How are you running these things? I have a 425xl and 2 4k icecaps, I just wanted something to give me another angle of flow. I had to turn it off, frustrated and went to bed.
