wanted to bump this - stumbled into this on netflix last night & my jaw almost hit the floor. either i've been living under a rock or the hobby isn't talking about bleaching enough.

You haven't been on this forum long enough.....usually these topics on climate change in this forum usually bring out debatable science, who to believe, who to point the finger at and then politics gets into the mix and the thread gets locked.

It's a real shame that any conversation like this has to devolve to there. I'm not really here to make any points about science or politics. The documentation of what happened to reefs in 2017 is jaw dropping and heartbreaking if you love coral reefs, which i'd guess is why 99% of us are in the hobby. My very cursory forum search didn't turn up a whole lot when i went to search for a discussion on this documentary earlier today. Perhaps you're right & that i'm just not searching hard enough...

For me, I'd love to challenge the industry to do more to support reef restoration and / or protection. Compared to some other hobby industries i don't think it is doing enough to protect the wild. And if it is, it's not doing it loudly enough for me to be aware as a consumer. For example, I've been shopping for new lighting fixtures the past few weeks & it seems the only manufacturer that "gives back" is reef breeders with $10 of every fixture purchasing going to CRF - please correct me if i'm wrong on that - if i am, it sort of illustrates my point about messaging.
