Never cleaning filter

So on my tanks not the newer one but I never cleaned the filters and most of the filtration is rock...is it okay to never clean filters if water test fine...if the flow slightly reduces is that a problem

Eventually it will become a problem I would imagine your phosphates and nitrates with buildup due to all the gunk buildup in your filter

In my freshwater tank the plant and algae growth uses up all of the nitrates so that never was a problem its just a matter of is the detritus a problem?

Detritus will eventually plug your filters to where they're not filtering anything anymore, just overflowing.
