Never seen before!!! Help!!!

Lots of interesting stuff popping up lately - I can tell you this isn't an egg case, or at least not one I've seen before (it's not uniform enough for any whelk eggs I've seen).

My first thought would be a bryozoan or foraminiferan of some kind, but the I can't see the uniform zooid housings typically seen on a bryozoan, and most similar foraminiferans I know have the lines going horizontally, not vertically.
