So I'm upgrading my 29 gal tank to 125 gal! I picked up the tank and stand today. I will be getting the sump next week. The tank needs a little TLC cleaning before I can place it where I want it and start filling it up! The one thing I'm struggling with is lighting! What can I use that's most cost effective? And how many lights will I need? Any input will help!

You mean in cost effective on the cost of usage or purchase cost?
Do you have a budget set for your build?
IMO you shouldn't try to be shy on a good light.
Do you research for which direction you leaning towards, MH, T5 or LED's.

ATI T5, and if you want led just get with Dave at NanoBox reef for a retro. Get a 6 bulb and have him convert the center two to 6-8 led clusters

Oh and by the way Marine depot has 15% off the ATI today.

I'm looking at the cost, I have been leaning towards LED's and wouldn't like to spend more than $600.

Thanks Rsaalman for the tip on 15% off! I'm looking at some LED's and at a protein skinner but not sure which one to pick yet.

. I know it's been some time since I've posted any updates. My tank is doing very well. I'm just working on getting my water parameters in order. I have noticed some algae growing on some of my rock and my fish store has told me to wait it out for a few months and the algae should subside.
