Hey all,

I posted on here a few months backwith the intention of setting up a reef system and got some ideas etc. Now ive decided to bite the bullet and go for it :) as my son loves my freinds reef setup and it keeps him quiet for a while :P, very excited tbh.

Im very new to reefing !!! i have however kept puffer fish and moray ells for several years. IM clenaing out my system of the current fish as we speak after another nasty break out of ich (only on the puffer again ).

So......... cna i keep my zebra moray in a reef setup i know its gonna cuase issues with the CUC i can have but will he dmg corals etc .

This is my current set up;
4x2x2 tank
3.5x1.8x1.5 sump
aquaray 600's x2
tmc blue led strip light
tmc 600 ltr skimmer
2x1200 lph power heads
35 kg of mature LR

My question is where the hell do i start !!!! lol, i was thinking id take the substrate out as its alittle big about 1.5mm crused coral sand( to clean it well because of the ich outbreak ) and leave it bare bottom for about 6 weeks ) no more ich i hope and then gonna look at sorting a CUC but im really lost and could use some pointers.

Thanks guys

Awesome!! :clap2: Can't wait to see what you come up with!!

unfortunately 6 weeks isnt always good enough. ive heard many stories of people still having ich in tank even after 12weeks. but once u finally get rid of it somehow preferably let the tank dry out since you are redoing it if you want to keep your rock live just put in a tub with water and powerhead and itll be fine. but if you really want to give it a go and be sure theres no more ich you needa dry it out or run freshwater through it. nows a great time to redo any sand u may want to take out or add and re-aquascape with corals in mind. it will be some work but not as much as loosing fish again and again and having a bad time and not enjoying your tank. and make sure when all set back up that you QT and treat all incomming fish and corals.

I am gonna leave it fallow for probly more like 12 weeks tbh. i will be bale to add cuc in this amount of time and so softies?

The CUC and coral can be added when the tank is fallow. No reason to remove the sand bed unless you want to, but if it contains a lot of debris I would def siphon during water changes.

If the tank is empty, now is a great time to aquascape as it only gets harder as more coral are added.

I would also get used to testing the tanks params, including alk and calc, so as to get a complete picture of your water quality. I'm sure they are inline right now but as you add coral these params may change and it's good to know where you started from.

Personally, with new tanks I like to add pods to an empty tank and let them proliferate first with no predators, just a thought

WelcOme to R2R btw!

im gonna remove the sand bed to give it a clean as its infested with ich even my uv isnt shifting it !!!. Gonna run bare bottom for 3/4 weeks and add in the sand bed a mix of the old substrate 1.5mm - 2mm crush coral along with about 20 kg of 0.5mm -1mm crushed corral sand. Then i was thinking of adding the cuc after about 3/4 days.

"pods" = Copepods ?, can the bee seeded with no substrate or should i add the new substrate along with the old after its been cleaned ?

"pods" = Copepods ?, can these be seeded with no substrate or should i add the new substrate along with the old after its been cleaned and seed with Copepods ?
