alright i wanted to put ny 2¢. first off this is awesome, i would love do the same, but would do a couple things differently. the first thing screamingvto me is it looks like you are thinking of running 4" filter socks. if this is the case, you will be changing them atleast every other day. i run them on my nanos and wish they were bigger. next i totally understand where you are coming from with your sump, but 2 skimmers just arent as efficient as one. next imo the bigger the fuge the better more room for algae and pods. other than that i think thats all i got. cant wait to see progress!!!

I agree with most everyone else as far as running the sump traditionally inline. Using one large skimmer, and one large pump, and maybe just for redundancy have a second one plumbed in for an emergency. Planning your plumbing to run 2 tanks with a traditional one way sump will be much easier and far less complicated. Much less heat to deal with as well, by running one pump. Creating a manifold to run your bio pellets and carbon will be much cleaner and easier to deal with too.

Ok I am working on a new inline sump designe. Any tips on doing plumbing easly in google sketch up? I saw some doing it like it was nothing but he had the pro version. Is there an easy way to do it?

More Sketchup

I’ve been messing with sketch up some more and this is what I have so far. I resized the sump but I have not done anything else with it because I’m not sure what I’m doing yet. What do you think so far?

I have not done anything except resize it. I dont know exactly what I am going to do with the sump yet so I drew up the stand, tanks, and light. Im still trying to deside if I am going to use internal or external pumps and internal or external skimmer. All of these things will make a large difference in the designe. I have some figuring to do.

Looks good but why is that first section so big? Refugium?

where did you purchase the LEDs items from?

Ok, upon request I have done a basic google sketchup of the sump. I have made some changes to try and take care of the evaporation issue. I resized the skimmer areas to the size of the skimmers I want which has saved me 2" on each side. I resized the overflow area to minimize any space waste. That gave me another 2” on each side. I have upped the total return area to 18x30 (a significant increase). I have put in measurements on each section on the picture. I also labeled the pumps with my pump ideas as well as the skimmers. I will try to get more detailed as I become better with the program.

I made some progress on the light fixture. I should have all the frame and lights in place soon. Here are some pics of my progress. There will be more coming soon.

Perhaps Sketchup wasn't done "to scale", but you will want at least 2x8s if not 2x10s on their sides for your support directly under the tank. Looks like there are 2x4s in the pic. Again, maybe the Sketchup isn't 100% accurate, but I thought I would mention that.
