Im looking at buying a 240 Gallon that im going to mount in the wall of my living room and the backside will be in my heated garage. Im going to put the sump down in the basement So that will be pretty cool down there, I dont think the winter will be a problem as the garage is heated. But in the summer id imagine it can reach up 100 degrees in there sometimes during the day. So I guess my question is do you think this is doable or will I definitely need a chiller? any other ideas or thoughts?

Looking forward to another 240!!! As far as the temp question, I would think it might balance out with the cool water coming from the basement. I don't know though. I assume the tank will be cycling during fall or winter so you will not be able to see if a chiller is needed prior. Good luck and looking forward to the build.

Heres some pics of the garage, I just built this house only a few months ago so Im still working on eveything, Trying to get the garage cabinets installed now. The tank will go in the space to left of the cabinets with about 7 free inches on each side, and the other side of the wall is over the half wall going down to the stairs in the living room 20150610_221734.jpg

I would say that you will likely need a chiller, and temp swings could potentially be an issue if you want to keep difficult to keep fish. It sounds awesome though, maybe you can mitigate that issue with a good chiller and heater.

I haven't had a Tank In a while, I had a salt water one about 10 years ago only a 55 with about 10lbs of live rock. I Want something easy for now, but saltwater for sure. And I want all the gadgets to make it easy like Auto level right off the RO system, What other things can I automate. and any Ideas on the tank and fish...

I saw some post from 07 about people talking about the energy cost, Oh my! Im gonna have to do LED lighting also, I dont have any incandescent lights in the house most are LED my last bill was about $80 for the hole house im in STL (thinking about installing some Solar panels sometime in the future)
