I'm planning on turning my 29g fresh water tank into a FOWLR. The main question I have is about filtration. I've researched and researched, but cant find anything definitive. I've read that all I would need for filtration, being that 29g is on the smaller side, is the live rock itself and a protein skimmer (not required). Can you guys confirm this? Thanks!!
**my current filtration for my freshwater tank is an AquaClear50. Could that also be used for my saltwater tank? Or would the live rock + skimmer be enough?

Live rock, Live sand, skimmer, fuge, and or filter socks are what most people use. Carbon is also great for polishing the water. It all depends on how much you feed and how many fish you have. BRStv has 52 weeks of reefing and the 5 minute guide that should help explain it all for you if like youTube.

You could use the AC50 to run carbon to polish the water, and for surface movement.

If you run a larger AC (such as 110), you can use it to house a heater and/or refugium.

You don't use it for holding beneficial bacteria like in freshwater, that is what live rock is for! It is incredibly porous.

Just curious, any idea what fish you want?
