Hello,

I just started a 30 gallon saltwater tank with with some mushroom corals and a couple of clown fish. I have recently noticed some patches of brown algae on the sand. I would like to know if this is normal and if a yellow tang would get rid of this coral. I am using RO water so I know that is good but since I had to put new saltwater in the tank I am not sure if it is from the saltwater mix that I used. If I use a siphon to suck out the algae will it come back? I am using 2 filters on the back of the tank an AquaClear and Fluval.

Thanks,

That is too small a tank for housing any tang long term.

The brown algae could be diatoms or cyanobacteria. Can you share some pictures?

Also how long have you had the tank setup? What are your water parameters? What lights do you have and what is your lighting schedule?

Also, I don't see any mention of a clean up crew. Do you have any CUC in the tank?
