So I've got this nice tall 30 gallon Hexagon tank and I've done some research, however I keep getting mixed information about how to set up a fowlr in this kind of tank. I know i'm going to have crushed coral as my substrate at around a depth of 2" but I'm not sure how much live rock I should place in it, how to position the powerheads or even what kind of power heads im going to use. I don't plan on using a protein skimmer as I'm lightly stocking the tank with a pair of clownfish and a clean up crew. If anyone could throw me some input on setting up a Hex of my size that would be awesome. Also if you have any ideas on a hang on back filter; all I could find on that is just make sure the intake goes down to the bottom so it can suck up the waste.

I'd switch the crush coral for Sand.. The rule of thumb is a 1 pound per gallon. How tall is the tank? I have a 56 gallon column tank and it was a real pain to get it where there was no dead spots.. I'm upgrading to my 75 this weekend. Hydor power heads are what I use. They do a great job. I'm guessing the tank is pretty tall and you will need to work out your PH so there are not a lot of dead spots where the water is not moving. I'e seen some on Youtube you might want to check it out.

would it be better to have two oscillating powerheads? maybe put a flow diverter on the outflow of the filter?
