New 30g...sump/canister filter

Would a canister filter work as well as a sump?? Or should i have both?? What would you do??..right now just cycling live rock with normal 30g filter...until our new tank is completely cycled. All water levels are great....i think its because of the type of water i buy from my boss.. But anyways...do i have to have a sump??

Lighting wise..what would you suggest for a 30 gallon??
Things going in my tank:
Shrimp ( i love these little guys )
Zoas (my 300+ from my old tank) (unless i can sell them all before then)
Bta
MAYBE a hammer nem
Electric flame scallops
And our baby sargent major (only FISH (other then clowns) that will be in our tank)
Suggestions on what clowns we should try?

My tank has been runing for 10 months. And I use hob filters and a DIY canister filter. And my coral r happy and growing with nice color even SPS now that I got good lights. I also use 3 or 4 times the recommended filtration. If ur interested and want to learn more about my System just let me know id be happy to share. I hope this helps

When I get home from work today I'll take pics. I have the petsmart special lol. I have a 55 gallon tank. With 2 petsmart topfin hang on back filters both rated for 75gal tanks. So it's 150gal of filters. (I only put polyester teddy bear stuffing in them) I have 2 remora skimmers each rated for 30gal tank. And I also have a DIY 2 gallon IGLOO Gatorade container canister filter I made. I put half rubble rock and half polyester teddy bear stuffing and a corse sponge/ filter media on top. All my coral are happy and healthy. I don't know how well this will work in the long run but we will see. I only have three fish right now. One clump one strawberry dottyback and a tang and I need to find a bigger tank for.
