Just as i am looking to replace my aging powerheads hydor has a new one. I hated the evolution series. Poor grill design caused them to spin backwards on a wavemaker.

Wondering if anyone had them yet i know they seem a bit pricey. Really wondering about the plastic. It looks like the kind that had no give and shatters, like a cd jewel case.

Also, wondering if these 3rd gen are good. Im a big fan of koralia. Thinking of order a 3rd gen for black friday. Following this thread

I have 2 of them. The plastic is flexible, they are very quiet, and the magnetic mounting is ingenious. Had them running a couple of months, no issues and I'm pretty happy with them.

What size do you have ? and on what size tank ?

I have a 160 gallon 60"Lx27"Dx24"T and the ones I have are the smallest gen 3's 1350 GPH I believe. But, I also have a Gyre 150 for water movement. I use the 2 Koralia's for counter flow and eliminating dead spots. Gyre up high and Koralia's down low in the opposite direction.

I was born and raised on Koralia K3's and K4's.....a workhorse of a powerhead. And yes, they would start in reverse half the time, but you'd just unplug and plug them back in to get them going in the right direction. I liked them to the point that I'd make fun of those blithering idiots who spent all that money on Vortechs.

Then Evolutions came out. I actually prepurchased four 1400. Well within a year all four were in the trash. For me these were a design disaster right from day one. Hydor did send me replacement parts for the stuff that was redesigned, but eventually this redesigned stuff failed. Although they had great customer service, the quality of these powerheads has left a bad taste in my mouth about Koralias.

I still use a K4 and K8 to mix my saltwater, but otherwise I'm one of those idiots who spent way too much money on five Vortechs.

The evolution series is why I stopped using hydors. I have them on a wavemaker. So more than 1/2 time they would rum in reverse. I was wondering if this new version would also run im reverse.

I started this hobby with Hydors. Great bang for the buck but I always had to check them to make sure they were not running in reverse. I eventually ended up with the RW series from Jebao. Been running them for about a year with no issues.

I started with the evolution series . I to got tired of them running backwards and last month bought an MP 40 QD
So far no regrets

How is this Gen 3 pump working out for those of you that are currently running ?

I have been on 3 2450gph Gen 3 pumps. The first 2 were replaced by the Drfosterandsmith the 3rd one was replaced from Hydor directly, and this new pump is starting to do the same issue as the rest. Our issue with this pump is after running for about 30-45 min it stops making flow. It does not turn off, you can see the impeller spinning but it makes little to no flow. Unplug and plug it back in and it starts to make flow again, let it run for about 45min and it stops making flow. Anyone else have this issue?
