New 40 Gallon Reef Tank!

So true.. and to ship a fish this small.. was a shame to start - at first I was - what is that - then I realized it was a tang the size or a quarter.
I have also seen the smallest hippo tangs there as well... usually they are ick prone anyway but at this size - unless they are locally bred - way too small.

Welcome to R2R, looking forward to seeing your tank and sea creatures:)

So now I've got the tank, heater, wave pump and Ai Prime lights! That's all the equipment, now I just need the live rock, live sand and the premixed saltwater. Making a checklist, anything I'm missing? Pics to come!

Sweet! We are going to need lots of pics! Oh and a word of cation, if you buy live rock. There is always the possibility of unwanted hitchhikers with live rock, sometimes some good ones as well tho. It costs a lot more to. You can go with dry dead rock and still be equally successful. Welcome to R2R!

Just bought a hydor Koralia circulation and wave pump 425 gph... Think that's enough for my tank?

check out the new tank stand my girlfriend made me!!! Just got it today!

The only thing I have to say about a 40g tank. That if your looking to grow big corals and have more than 8-10 fish you should get a bigger tank. I have a 40gb tank and I always said I just want a small reef, but now i'd wish I would have started with a 75g or 100g. Those two tanks are in the middle i'd say would be a good reefing spot to start at.

Nah honestly I only want a few fish like some clowns and a flame angel. I have two other freshwater tanks so I have my hands full with those too. Good advice! But I'm not planning on a huge saltwater tank, just wanna see if I can maintain it well

What fish you have in it
Blue/yellow tail damsel
Royal grammar
Six line wrasse
Two mis bar clowns
Tiny yellow tank (see his story, he's a temp fish)
Two bangi's tank raised
Yellow watchmen gobi
(Make sure you put six line in last and you will not have an issue) I have not model citizen.

I would recommend for stocking fish:

- Ocellaris clowns
- Yellowtail damsel
- Royal gramma basslet
- Flame angel
- Randalli prawn goby (with Randalli pistol shrimp of course!)
- Six line wrasse
- Neon goby
- Flame cardinal

Obviously not all of them just a few.

I just put in my live rock today and my tank is very cloudy. Should I expect this to go down and how fast? I just want to make sure it's normal

oh nice; on the other two tanks. Are you going to run a protein skimmer on this tank? I'm running a reef octopus 110 on my 40gb. It work's really good.

My fish list is:
2 clown
4 chromis
1 cardinal
2 orange anthias
skunk shrimp

And I'm going to add 3-4 longspine cardinal fish. With that being said if I were you I'd add some longspine cardinals to my list. Most LFS don't carry these fish but they are really nice looking under LED's.

I plan to run one but I just have to do research on what size I can fit in my compartment on the back since its limited space. I'll have one but it'll be small.

I honestly feel like most skimmers of this size are not worth the money. They work, and they pull out some junk, but they all seem to have some issues from what I've read on these sorts of threads.
