So about two weeks ago my biocube 29 front glass got cracked, and I had to quickly put together another tank for the livestock in old one. I was already looking to upgrade, but didn’t want to do it in a rush. I wanted to take my time and build my new tank from scratch, and have every detail just how i wanted. Well I guess life doesn’t work that way. A friend of mine helped me find something close to what i wanted that day. This thread is about my new setup. feel free to make suggestions for improvements.

The tank is a 56g tall tank, and it came with stand, hob overflow, Eshopps rs-100 sump, and a bubble magnus curve 5 skimmer. Before doing the transfer I drilled two 3/4 holes in the rear glass, and installed the bulkheads. One is for the drain line and one is for the return. I know i should have done 1’ holes but the 3/4 were all i had, and I didn’t have time to wait due to cracked tank. The sump is not big enough for fuge and skimmer so right now I’m just running skimmer and filter socks.

Some Improvements

I have made a couple of to the setup in the last week or so. First I build a canopy for the tank for a couple of reasons. There was too much evaporation happening, debris and dog hair was entering the system, and light spill was bright when trying to watch tv. I build the canopy frame out of 1x1 oak, and the exterior panels out of birch. I left the back open for air but covered with egg crate to prevent carpet surfers. I also took down my hanging brackets for the light, and mounted my Reef Breeders LED light fixture in the canopy. I also installed a switch board to the right side of the tank. The board has 4 separate switches, and controls my return pump, skimmer, small pump for ro top-off water, and light inside the stand (to make it easier to see inside sump during maintenance work.t

Looks good for having to move and act quickly.

Fish are great jumpers and can jump through egg crate, may want to consider making screen tops instead.
