After months, my 65 gal in my office is finally ready for stocking. My old 65 gal sprung a leak and I have to take it down and restart. I got a little problem with this tank. The LR from Corpus Christi Bay was out of the water too long and I had a large died off and significant cycle. I was not with the tank 24 most of the time and was not able to empty the skimmer all the time, so I was very insufficient in removing the nutrients due to multiple time the full skimmer cup overflow and dump the nutrients back into the tank. Finally, the tank was semi-clean where I think adding animals into it would be OK.
Equipment and a little about the tank:
In addition to heater (control by temperature regulator) and return pump (DC, controable) in the sump I have the following hardware
1. Aqueon 65 gal reef ready tank with off-center overflow
2. Home-made sump, barely fit with a small refugium chamber, only 5X16 inches
3. DSB both in the tank and in the refugium, much deeper in the refugium
4. Radion Pro G4 and Pro G3
5. 2XMP10 for circulation
6. LR, old Terestial LR that I had for 10+ years, refreshed in the CC Bay of about 3 months or so
7. Octopus Skimmer that is extremely efficient
8. Kalk reactor, automatic refil with adjustable feeding pump (no water level device). I may add a homemade Ca reactor at a later time if needed.
9. Home made canopy that keep all the fish jump up fall back down to the tank or into the overflow box. I may need to get a cover for the overflow box to keep wrasse in the tank.
Animals that already in the tank:
1. 2 Green Gigantea Carpets that have been there for the last month
2. Two Sea Urchins
3. Black SnowFlakes Ocellaris pair. Babies 1 inch raised by a Friend here in Corpus Christi. Strang thing is they are not in my Gigantea. They will be sooner or later.
4. Tomini Tang
My usual preferences would be clowns, angels and wrasse, However, I am thinking of going on a different direction in this tank.
Few SPS, mostly LPS and one of the Gigantea. Likely no angel. Possible a few Flasher wrasse. I would prefer fish that won't hunt down my pod population so I can add a Mandarin in the future.
Any suggestion?
