Well it's time to jump into the big leagues. My new summer project. Gonna start off with 1 HOB and 1 canister for now. Probably gonna be a fowlr too start then move into a mixed reef. Trying to stay on a budget so any tips would be appreciated.

John - congratulation on the new adventure! Make sure that you have read the following R2R article - The Supreme Guide to Setting Up a Saltwater Reef Aquarium. Additionally, I think you may find it very helpful to watch the entire series of BRS 52 Weeks of Reefing. Obviously that will take you a little while to work through the series (even if you binge watch) but I know that I have found it very helpful. If you haven't started a build thread yet in the members tanks section then this would be a great time to do it - it is nice to be able to look back after a year or two and see how far your tank has come! Finally take it slow - I mean slooow! I promise that your fish will thank you. Good luck - we are cheering for you!

If your ultimate goal is a mixed reef then IMHO id skip the canister filter and HOB and put that money towards the sumpand skimmer

I should clarify. I already have 2 nano tanks so I'm not new at this. I'm just new to the bigger tanks. I do plan on the sump in the near future. The HOB and the canister came with the aquarium so I'm gonna run those for now. One step at a time.

Well the journey continues! Got the tank filled and lit! Got a great deal on all my equipment so far. I’m only $200 in! 3/4 of the equipment came with the aquarium so all I’ve paid for out of pocket so far is the light.

Equipment:

75 gallon bowfront

stand and hood

penn pax 1200 canister filter with seachem matrix and other filter flosses

marineland 350

current USA marine led 48”

300w aqueon heater

30 pounds of dry rock so far for my aquascape. I’m working on that now so the pics of my aquascape will follow. For now it’s just a seeded piece out of my other tank. Let the cycle begin!!!!!!!!

The journey continues. The corals are coming in! Thanks to @WWC and @FishOfHex , the tank is looking fuller every day. Finally got the sump up and running. I’m now using the canister as a make shift carbon reactor. I’ll put some updated pics on later but here’s a few to get ya lookin. Happy reefing
