Hi all, setting up a new 80 gallon "cube" and I'm looking for suggestions regarding circulation pump, lighting and skimmers. Not totally new to the hobby but it's been a bit...I'm looking for submersible pump and skimmer. I plan on a reef type system with live rock and no additional filtration. Anyone have suggestions?

Welcome to R2R Cherie. :-)

How large is the sump?

Welcome back!! Do you know how the tank is or will be plumbed? Overflow or HOB filter or canister filter?

It will be an overflow with an under cabinet sump. Hopefully a submersible pump and in-sump skimmer. Lighting is a special interest since when I first started halide was what we had. Looks like it's mostly LED now.

Is it a drilled tank or will it be an over the back overflow? I won't comment to much on lighting as I have a MH/T5 combo light fixture. As far as skimmers I like tried and true old school tech so I personally run and recommend Lifereef Skimmers.

The tank is drilled.

Looking at
Hybrid ati? I don't know what that means.
ahhh....it's a brand name, lol! I actually don't have the availability of hanging a fixture from the ceiling and since my tank is an odd size I'm having trouble locating one that will sit on top. I'm thinking about a Kessil A360we tuna sun...that can mount on the back with a gooseneck add on. I'm thinking I'll need two of these to cover a 32inch wide tank???

Just purchased a Reef Octopuss classic 150 in sump skimmer...god I hope I'm making good choices, but I want to have much of the equipment here so when my husband builds the cabinet it will all come together properly!

Here's a question, I have never used any type of universal controller...what do they actually control, and how hard is one to set up?
