I really want a new tank for Christmas this year. I'm worried it will cost to much and my parents will not be able to get it for me. What can I expect to get a new drilled 90 gallon system for? Total price? My goal with this build would be to keep sps corals.
Thanks to every one!

Do you have any equipment you would have already?

I've never bought a 90g, but I'm guessing the tank alone will cost between $200 to $300, if you have existing equipment it will help out a lot.

Do you have any friends or a local reef club in your area? A 40 breeder would be your best bet IMO. There are many ways to keep SPS corals with out breaking the bank. I've kept them with out reactors and skimmer successfully but you need to stay on top of your water quality. The more you know about this hobby the better off financially you'll be in the long run.....as long you don't get bitten by a chalice bug!:frusty:

I've had a 30 gallon for a year now so I'm pretty knowledgable. I've keeped soft and lps successfully with only two 36 watt t5s. The only equipment that I could reuse from the 30 gallon would be one power head (the live rock would transfer over flatworms that have recently broken out). No local reef clubs. And I want something bigger than a 40 breeder cause I already have a 30. I've looked at Craigslist it seems most of the people in my area don't have drilled tanks and I have NO expirience in drilling glass. My LFS also doesn't get in drilled tanks bigger than 55 which doesn't make any sense to me?? I'm sure they would order one for me. I'm going to keep my eyes pealed for Craigslist though.

What equipment would every one recomend for this tank?

Well, if I remember correctly, my drilled 90 gallon was $250ish. You will need a skimmer rated for 150-200 gallons ($250ish), a 48" light ($600ish), Return pump ($100)... it will get expensive.

A good rule of thumb is usually $40-50 per gallon as an estimate and as you are stocking and. Getting good equipment it can be about?$100 per gallon. I've dropped several thousand on the 3 nanos that I've had. That was replacing cheap equipment stocking and the tank upgrades though. Very rewarding and addicting hobby though. You will LOVE it!

90 gallon

I have a 90 gallon and if you can get retro t-5 lighting. There half the cost of a fixture and actually brighter than a fixture. My tank brand new and drilled with built in overflow box was $312. You can never really have too much flow for the tank, so the bigger the powerhead or maxi-jet and at least have 4+ of them. Until you can afford Tunze powerheads they are def the way to go. they rock my tank and SPS world. If you want to pick my brain PM me. Good Luck!!

Sorry to hear there is no reef club in your area as they are the best resource for used equipment and advice on fair price of equipment you find at other places. In the current economy tanks just don't sell so they can be found very cheap. For example, "72 gallon Bow Front Reef Ready with black wood stand. The stand could use a repaint. 20 gallon long sump/refugium. Return pump, powerheads and heaters included. $100" was posted on our club forum and has received no response. There are plenty of things out there for sale that are not good deals but trustworthy equipment from a reliable source can be found for 25 percent or less of new cost.

Have you thought about maybe going with a 75g? They are not as deep as the 90g but that allows you to have less light with the same footprint. I had a 75g and loved it.

I recently purchased a 90g reef tank with stand and canopy. My first SW tank. I can tell you it will be expensive. This hobby isn't cheap, but it is very rewarding. Without live stock I probably spent $2000, but I bought quality equipment not the cheap stuff.

That's a nice tank. The only problem with cube tanks is that sometimes they require a custom made sump to fit under the stand because of the dimensions of the main tank aren't normal.
