So i recently got a great deal on a marineland 90gallon reef ready tank. Would love advice on saving money to start it up. Not really an sps man but love soft and lps like euphyllia. Would love to learn how to make my own sump and how to plump the tank. Also any suggestions on return pumps, led lights, etc.

It’s a reef ready tank so it shouldn’t take much to plumb it at all. Wait for a Petco $/gal sale and buy the biggest tank you can fit in the stand. If you can it’s best to make the baffles out of glass but acrylic can work.

I went with 2 marsaqua 165w for my 90 gallon

Best advise I can give is have the packages show up to your work and not your house. You don't want to tip off the wife on how deep the rabbit whole is for this hobby ;)

Also, keep an eye on your local forum for deals on coral and keep an another eye on the second hand market. This hobby has a high turn over and people will part out their tanks gear for cheap for a quick sale.

Thanks for the input guys. The $1 per gal sale ends tomo so alot of petcos near me was out of the size i need. I think anywhere between 30 to 38 gallons would fit under my stand (which is 47 1/8" by 17") but the 38gallon at petco wanst part lf the sale :(. So I guess Ill keep searching

Another thing I have seen people do is make a sump out of a tote. They come in all different shapes and sizes. You just have to make sure the plastic is the right number.
