Hello gang. I'm normally just a reader of the various posts and not a poster but I wanted to share an experience that especially at the time had me a bit ruffled that resulted in questions. I had an order of Acro frags being shipped yesterday. Due to having to work the grind everyday I asked my girlfriend (who I'm trying to educate on saltwater but at this point knows only that the hobby deals with water), if I could have them shipped to her place since she was off work and then she could get them over to my place into quarantine sooner in the day. I had a quarantine bucket with balanced saltwater prepared with a wavemaker in it running in my living room for the coral arrivals. That way she had something to put them in until I got home and could take it from there. Unfortunately I had my RODI still hooked up to the sink and was making water for drinking and dispensing it into used plastic tea jugs that were rinsed out. She had one of those days where she was in 10 directions and actually ran late and showed up 30 minutes before I got home from work (So the shipping to her house did little). Trying to hurry and have it done before I got home she grabbed my small quarantine 1 gallon tank I have; filled it with freshwater from the tea jugs I was making, and dropped in the first Acro with a small powerhead/pump. Upon leaving work I texted her to ask if things were ok. Her response was "I'm doing the corals now,....I just put the 1st one in and I'm going to get the others in the tank in a minute. I used the water your making now in the jugs." So I hurry and call as I realized my under shorts will need changed. She doesn't answer "of course". Then I send her a text to state, "That's freshwater and not saltwater!!!" To get to the point. I get home and of the 4 frags, clearly 1 was in freshwater for I don't know how long but taken back out of the tank and put into its open bag it was shipped in while the 3 others were still sealed. The quarantine tank was emptied and dried and put back away on the shelf and she said she didn't do anything yet so just relax.
My question is the coral that I know she had in the freshwater is now in question. It looks all white but I am seeing still the little colored polyps coming out of the pores slightly. Does anyone have any thought on if it would have effected it to the point it wont come back and make it? My guess is it was possibly in the freshwater for 15 minutes or more.
Also, my frags on a couple had a bit of hair algae and I usually do the peroxide scrub on the base when I see this but never did it on Acros to know if it bothers them?
Thanks for reading my long winded drama. Any suggestions or comments I'd appreciate. I hate being the guy that has fish or corals die; especially cause of things like this.
