I bought this guy yesterday. I'll monitor my water for a few weeks before adding more life to my tank. Any advice on what to watch for in my water?

The big three Calcium, Mag and Alkalinity.
I would also either snap off or super glue over those vermatid snails that are within close proximity.
Blastos are wonderful corals, congrats.

+1, was about to say the same thing regarding the big 3. A nice coral that will reward you with heaps of growth when things are right.

thanks Tahoe61. I have calcium test but no Mag or Alkalinity. i will look into getting them. What are vermatid snails? Should i be concerned about them?

Vermatid snails are those white tubes that are poking out of the LR on the right. They cast out a mucus, spider's-web looking substance that traps food in the water column. But they can damage and even kill corals.

Ok thanks. I have a lot of them growing any way to get rid of them?

I take clean needle nose pliers and snap them off at the base, or I cover vermetids close to corals with super glue gel or cover with under water epoxy.
