So I got 2 new fish and my 29g is fully stocked. I now have 2 misbar blood orange clowns and 1 Caribbean jewel damsel. The clown I ordered was supposed to be close to the same size but is quite a bit larger it's hard to get pics since it is picking on the smaller one. I'm assuming this is just a dominance thing and will keep a close eye on it but if someone has any tips or ideas I'm open to listen. Here are some pics.

Watch it, but it should just be a dominance thing. It is typically only a problem when adding 2 females together. As long as the smaller one is still a male it should all work out. If they are both still males the larger one should become female fairly soon.

btw... love the damsel!

I hope the smaller one didn't become a female but it's still quite small so I'm hoping it hasn't can it switch back if it has? Thanks yeah I really like the damsel the tail turns yellow as it gets older.

So cute...love the damsel also!!
Thanks yeah I searched for awhile to find something to add to the pair of clowns to make the tank pop and it looks even better in person, the pictures don't show how bright the blue spots get in the light. His tail should turn yellow as he gets older also.

No, they won't switch back (at least I am pretty sure they can't!). It is so small I don't think it will be an issue.

Just remember, clowns are weird. Makes them very entertaining but you will be scratching your head some days!

Please keep me updated on his attitude...I might follow suit. :)
Sure no problem I can tell you right now he isn't bothering anything not the smaller clown or the big clown and was even feeding next to the bigger clown and they didn't pay each other any mind and were actually quite polite to each other.

Yeah I've been noticing the small one has a weird personality and always slept in the back left corner of the tank. I may need to add another piece of rock (I have a nice piece of dry rock just sitting in a box anyways.) Since the damsel instantly took to the cave I built for the clown fish along with the cleaner shrimp. So I may try to make something else for the clowns.

One of my clowns likes to sleep in back bottom corner on his side. Freaked me right out. I thought he was dead the first time. Cute little buggers though.

Yeah the small one will eat a little food off the top of the tank and when he's ready he moves to where my filter flows into my tank (I turn it off to feed) and he finishes eating by chasing down the last of the food as it gets pushed under the water.

Many people mention the damsels tail turning yellow as it gets older. They aren't mentioning that this is a very aggressive damsel and that the cute body color now is going to change to a muted yelowish brown. This is a large damsel that can get to a very chunky 6 inches.
Your blood orange clownfish have marron clownfish moms and ocellaris dads. They may be able to hold their own against the jewel damsel.
It's good that you aren't planning to add any more fish to the tank. You've got 3 territorial and aggressive fish and newcomers won't be welcome.

The yellow brown is the Pacific jewel damsel the carribean ones turn black with the blue dots becoming smaller (from what I was reading), I went with this one because of that fact and from everything I read these o es are supposed to be less aggressive than the Pacific jewels. I have a 10 gallon tank cycling right now so if it does become a problem I have a tank I'm not going to put any fish in just a few crabs so I'll just move it to that tank and try another fish.

Actually, the Carribean ones can turn brown too. This is a picture of one in the ocean off of Bonaire. I'm not sure if it is sex dependent or if it is diet/conditions based. Either way, you should have plenty of time before it reaches its maximum size. Probably around 5" in your system.

Well that's good to know thanks. So many sites and all have different information. I can't remember which site it was but it had the Pacific jewel labeled as aggressive and the Caribbean one marked as semi aggressive. Which was another deciding factor but if it turns out to be to aggressive I'll just give it it's own tank. Side note is it is eating my diatom algae that is starting to form maybe that turns it brown.

The Caribbean one is also pretty aggressive. The Pacific version can grow over 9" and can be a terror.

Regardless, I wouldn't worry about it for awhile at least. Those clowns should end up pretty mean in their own right. Enjoy them for what they are now and who knows, when you install your 300 gallon in-wall system they may fit right in! :p

Once I buy a house you better believe it but if I'm going 300 the sharks might not be to friendly to them.
