New algae WHILE using Vibrant

I'm currently dosing vibrant at twice the recommended rate for bubble algae. It's been nearly 2 months and it's only 1/3 gone.

Now, this week, there's another contender on the absolute freaking nightmare of a sequence this has been.

If this is green Cyano I guess I could understand why it's appearing while using vibrant.

My parameters are:

1.026
Alk: 9.0
Cal: 420
Mg: 1350
Phos: 0.05
Nitrates: 10


So, what is this stuff and what can I do before it smothers everything?

Well darn. I guess I knew this was coming....the life cycles in our tanks are astonishing really.

My emerald crabs (3) couldn't keep up so vibrant caused this.


Does Cyano have the potential to wipe out coral? How do I know when things have gone too far? Is chemiclean always needed?

Not sure if chemyclean is always needed but I used it once and it worked as advertised. Never got cyano again and my tank has never been more clean.

I agree, it looks like cyano. You can try to get increased flow to the areas where it’s testing, that will help break it up. I used vibrant, and it worked well. As I expected based on other users experience, after vibrant I had a red cyano issue. Chemiclean helped me get rid of it after a handful of other things didn’t work.
