I recently purchased an Alk Reagent kit. It is a new version I guess. It is orange in color instead of red. Once I begin the process it goes from light blue in color to light yellow in color once it hits it's target.

I'm having a heck of a time getting a solid reading with this new reagent. The one that came with my pro kit was rock solid. I'm struggling like crazy with the new reagent. This morning I tested ALK at 9.6 with it which I knew was wrong. I rested with my back up testing kit and it came in at 7.5 which I know has to be much closer to accurate. This has been happening consistently. What am I doing wrong?

I can help:
RedSeaKev has addressed this. When your in the blue you may see a flash of grey then the endpoint.
It could be red/pink/peachy orange. It's not a certain color but the color change to an endpoint and they need to update that old video. My kit hits a peachy orange then I push in one more drop for good measure and stop.
Have doubled check it to API and RedSeaKev is right.

This seems like a good description of the first test kit Jeremy was talking about. I have the same situation. My alk from my reef foundation kit (or whatever the alk, ca, mg kit is called) goes from blue to a greyish, to red/pink/peachy orange.

However, I just purchased a refill kit and the reagent is lighter in color out of the bottle and stay a lighter blue until it turns....green/blue...greenish? Yellowish? The actual end point is super hard to find and doesn't match the existing card (no new card) in the least.

This sounds just like Jeremy's situation and I find the refill nearly useless so far. :(

It has nothing to do with the card color or any shade.

If you want the best or confused with finding the endpoint, then I'd get the Hanna alk checker.

Could be buying for myself down the line too. :)

Well...it has a little to do with the card color and/or shade because..you have to know what color you need to be looking for as an endpoint. Even if it doesn't match the card or isn't exact, an idea would be good.

And yeah, I considered the Hanna checker but opted for the refill this time, we'll see if that ended up being a bad decision or not. :)

New endpoint color is green

Yellow is overshot the endpoint

Thanks for chiming in. Do you have the same test? Do you find it hard to discern when you've reached the endpoint? I'll try it again and see if I can identify a clear difference.

I can use it comfortably, but it took a few tests. The link I added has a pic of the endpoint which I think is definitely green, not a bluish green.

Thank You!!!!!!
Have not bought the newer version refill, yet.

I picked up a few free Elos kits at reef stock a while back. That's what I'm using right now. I'll try again with this latest info. I was fine with the normal endpoint. They really didn't need to "enhance" it.

Yeah, I agree. Especially without noting on, or in, the box what the end point color is.
