I got my first rbta about 10 days ago from a local reefer.

acclimated: drip 2 hrs > float temp > light

Everything has been daily normal. Moved to under a ledge. Inflated/deflated a lot. Extends to the light during most days. Hid whenever feeding the tank for about a week.

the past 3 days have been looking much better. More open (can actually see the mouth some). Positive feeding response. And even moving its foot closer to the edge of the shelf, so it doesn’t have to stretch as far for light.

All that being said, I’m having 2 problems. I’m worried that it’s infected and may be bleaching. In the picture, you can see there is a darker brown area around where the oral disk and tentacles meet. It’s not everywhere, just there. Seems like the tentacles are dying where they meet the base at those points. As for the bleaching, not sure if it is just new growth that doesn’t have zoos yet, or if it’s bleaching starting at the edges. It’s a mature tank, but I’ve been going through a low nutrient issue due to rearranging the rock scale, and getting algae infestation.

Low nutrient or high? What are your water parameters?

BTAs are pretty resilient, so I'd give it a couple more days before determining what to do next. A lot of times they need time to adjust to their new environment, which means adjusting their zooxanthellae population for the new lights. This may result in a color shift of some sort.

Low, like 0/0. Started actually dosing nitrates and phosphates the past week slowly increasing to the desired range of 5/0.03ppm today.

does new growth happen at the edges, or center and out? Are new tentacles translucent from your experience?
