New anemone went into a tiny hole and is stuck

So my new bubbly tip anemone is not acclaiming very well. He went into this tiny hole fore some reason. I freaked out and tore my whole aquascape apart looking for him. I was about to give up when I saw him moving in this hole. I tried to break open the rock with a screwdriver but I was afraid I’d hurt him. Do you think he will be able to get back out?? What should I do?

they try to find small holes to fit into. It's natural. they do it to hide from any attacks and is kind smart of an anemone.

they're really slow. leave it alone. mess with it's foot and you'll do more bad than good. leave it. it's will move where it's most comfortable and that may be it's comfy spot.

If he is still in there in the morning. I’m going to cut him out with a hack saw. It’s all I have to use. He’s not in there hiding he wants out and is stuck.

Might be the worst idea I've ever heard for an anemone.


Giving us the details on parameters (saying they're good usually means you don't know for sure), tank age and lighting would be the best course of action.

As others have mentioned, stop changing things or trying to dig it out.

Dont attempt to remove it. If the Nem wants out he will come out. 1000% not stuck. I have a huge basket of nems some that can be as big as 4-6 inches. They managed to squeeze through .5 inch holes in the side of the basket on a daily basis. I have a few nems and plenty experience with them.

It’ll get out. One of my LTAs found a way to squeeze through fine plastic sewing mesh and into my jebao pump (on pulse mode) this morning… yeah, not thrilled with that…. They can squeeze in and out of the tiniest spots like it’s nothing.

They have no bones to get stuck on anything, so if he got in the hole, he will get out.

As stated by many in this thread already, we assure you the anemone is not stuck and has gone into that hole because it’s stressed out and trying to acclimate to it’s new environment. By trying to force it out, you risk further stress and possible meltdown/death which you definitely won’t want in your tank.

We have hundreds of BTAs and sometimes they can take a while to adjust and re-inflate

No! Leave it alone. The more you mess with it, the longer it's likely to hide.

Please listen to her. This is the best advice you can get at this point. If you tear it’s foot trying to get it out you’ll kill the nem.

It’s just what they do! 3/4 of my nem is in a hole upside down lol.. he’s a good size when out and open.
