New Anenome

How long should it take for an anenome to settle in? I bought a long tentacle anenome yesterday evening and this morning it’s mouth seemed to be pretty open. Is this normal he is in a soft coral 180g reef tank that has been running for 3 years now.

I would like to think so I have two sets of reef breeder LEDs above the tank. I could be wrong though

I haven’t tried feeding yet, I was just letting him chill out. I do live in Punta Gorda by the way

How deep is your sand bed
LTA need 4in or you are going to have a hard time getting anemone to settle
If sand is not deep enough, will be more humane to return as will keep moving around until the inevitable happens

Be wary of rescuing from Petco... unless you have a QT.
Best to head to Boardroom or Fin.

It’s staying in one spot for the most part. His mouth just stays open I’m not sure if it is be he is so big it’s normal I’ve only had small rock flower anenomes before. Also I might have a purple tang for sale soon not sure that’s what the containers inside the tank are haha

Your rock work is really cool. It looks very dense yet suspended like balloons. I'm guessing you did a bit of mortar work? You definitely have some good swimming space for those tangs. What is that ... about 72" long?
Nem still looks stressed. What kind of flow do you have in there? He is a big one. We'll call it a good sign that he is not moving all over. Keep good flow and light on it and watch to see what happens. I would try to feed it something small, see if it closes up.

If it was me, I would hold off feeding for a little while. Make sure it settles and isn’t declining first. Feeding a new arrival is a gamble. I look at it like this.

Feeding a new arrival is a 50/50 gamble that it will help. Some may recover faster. The other half, feeding will cause it to decline faster.

I’ve done both and think not feeding is safer.

NOT feeding a new arrival is 100% that feeding will NOT cause problems. It will not die from no food. They can go months with no food. Waiting a couple weeks to make sure it settles in might be slower, but to me, a living anemone in 3 months is better than no anemone. Feeding is a gamble, not worth it. Nothing good happens fast. But if you think you want to try feeding regardless, spray very small pieces to watch how it reacts.

Not an impulse buy the yellow tang and purple tang just decided to start bullying everyone today which was weird. No Mortor Work everything was extremely carefully put in place took a while It’s 72 by 24 by 24 I’ll keep an eye on it I will feed it some small brine shrimp here in a little bit to see what it decides to do

I also thought that myself to be honest it completely seemed excited when I sprayed baby brine shrimp around it so maybe it helped a little
