I'm looking to buy a controller and I would like to know everybody's opinion so far the people I've talked to at the local aquarium shop says the Apex classic is the best way to go

What size aquarium system do you have? The new Apex may be a better buy. Cross check component level pricing for the classic package you think you would buy against a bundled new system. If they come out close get the new Apex.

As of right now, IMO I would stick with the Classic only because of all of the issues I have been reading about with the new Apex. Whether or not those issues are blown out of proportion I do not know. I do know that the Classic has treated me well for a long time :)

This might help you with your decision http://reef2reef.com/threads/new-apex-2016-lol.255462/page-3#post-3018233 start from the beginning

Yikes! I was not aware of the problems and was drooling over it... I'm sure they will fix it soon but it seems for now it might not be ripe for prime time. The huge benefit I see with the new Apex is the new power bar with individual outlet power consumption monitors. This is amazing as you can see what each and everything is consuming and if it's even running!

I have a lite (but with all the modules I added it's pretty much the gold by now) and I really love it...

PS: Check the selling part of the forum, you will find great deals on Apex classic and gold!

Now I'm not an apex user yet but I'm looking into it I'm considering Apex jr. Even though I might buy more modules down the line for the price of the junior is it worth it or should I just bite the bullet and buy a classic

200gal and 75 gal

200g 75g, large tank, large system... definitely the new Apex. Like in any smart upgrade plan, phase in the new system. Don't jump from what you are using now to the new system abruptly. Do it incrementally.

I have read every "problem" thread and post on R2R forum and the Neptune Systems community forum for both the old and the new Apex controllers. Sure there are some lulu's. But in every instance Neptune Systems has stepped up and knocked the cover off the ball in terms of standing behind their products and fixing problems.

I have used Neptune Systems' controllers for many years.
I will be upgrading my system soon to the new version. When I do, it will be a smooth transition. It will be done a bit at a time, not all at once.

I think you can get a pretty good deal here on the selling forum for a classic that I wouldn't but a junior...

If you have a single small tank and you do not intend to do much in the way of monitoring and control then an Apex Jr may be fine. Because of the new Apex release this is a good time to pick up what is now being called the Apex Classic. The Apex Jr will seriously limit your expansion capability. The classic will not. If you expect to grow into more and more monitoring and control of your aquarium system, get the new Apex. You will be sure to be set up for anything Neptune Systems releases in the next several years.

I walked in today to buy the classic and bought the new one. I haven't opened it yet. I'm scared of the programming nightmare I might find inside. There wasn't anyone at the lfs that had real experience with them. But I gather the classic was 550 and with the needed port, module or whatever to run a dos would cost an extra 150, included with the new version. I can hard wire internet either way. I don't need the orp as I don't use ozone. And from what I hear the salinity probe is worthless. So for me, I asked if knowing how much voltage each plug was pulling was worth $100. Yeah, I guess. Unless I'm missing something? Does that sound correct?
