For Reference: I am looking to get either a 75 or 48 gallon aquarium. Undecided due to location.

1. 2 canister filters vs only 1 vs. sump
was told about using 2 canister filters with 1 using ceramic beads and 1 with Carbon

2. Do I need a protein skimmer if using canister filter(s)?

3. LED lights worth the $$?

Thanks ahead of time for all of the input.

Using the canisters like that would work well I believe. A couple things a sump adds that canisters don't is the much added water volume and stability. You can also add a refuge, more live rock, and keep most equipment down there out of site. Instead of using canister filters why not go with media reactors running in the sump with carbon and gfo same concept just cheaper and more benefits with the sump.

2. I would still use a skimmer. The extra nutrient control helps keep water parameters where you want it and the added oxygen I am sure helps as well.

3. Leds are nice and work well in my opinion. Having said that I am currently working on a t-5, led combo fixture for my 80 I am working on.
