Picke up this goni stokesi yesterday at lfs. I know they don't have good track records, got it for half price, thought I would give it a try since my tank tends to run a little "dirty". Have it in mod to low flow, mode ot low light (bottom of 46 bow front with 250w MH/4 t5 actinics) on soft substrate. Feed phyto daily along with Ocean Nutrition Nano Coral food twice weekly, along with the usual foods for the fishes and other corals...pe mysis, Reef caviar and some I can't remember at this point. From what I have read, it may not last long, but it would certainly not last at the lfs. Been in my tank for 24 hours and polyps are extending nicely, but wonder if they should be longer (at the lfs the polyps were almost 6" extended, but in laminar flow.) Any advice appreciated. Have read tons about these and know there are several theories as to why they don't survive, including magnesium and iron, bacterial infections, starvation, etc.

I picked up a pink with purple centers goni about 6 years ago from a LFS with the impression that it would last a short time. I have had it to this day and fragged it over 8 times and made good money off of it, I have grown it out to softball size each time before fragging. I have had it in every flow, lighting and placement since I have had it from pc, t-5 and MH. My opinion is just to keep an eye on it and if good polyp extension is evident then your on the right track just leave it alone. I have never feed it and have kept it in dirty tanks and sps clean tanks and it has always done great. Only thing that I have noticed it that it seems to like a medium to low flow and it has tolerated my clown hosting in it for the last 4 years. It does seem to like variant current from my mp10 on reef crest mode full blast in the lower part of my tank currently running a 150 20k radium at this time.
