Hello and Welcome to R2R! How long has your tank been up and running? It takes time for tanks to cycle, and everyone does it differently... Some with bottled bacteria and 'ghost feeding' the tank so the bacteria has something to eat. Some do it with a deli shrimp just thrown in until their parameters are ok....
No matter how you do it, it takes time.
The great guys and gals here should be able to help you out!!!

Welcome to the site. Take a picture of those rocks. Probably last time you see them so pristine. But that’s a good thing. It means life is growing. Go slow as mentioned and ask lots of questions. If this is the first tank, the is a few threads to research how to set up a tank.

I tried doing this in the 80s. Seems the hobby has changed. I don’t see how my poor fish is alive. Lol

I’ll probably randomly ask silly questions sorry. My children went to the gulf coast this week. I told them to bring me back Som small underwater hermit crabs and snails they catch every year. And some unusual underwater rocks. Is this a bad idea?

Asked them to bring back a handful of wet beach sand along with the hermits and snails. Just don’t add any shore crabs.

!!! Welcome to R2R, @Steve34k !!! Will take some time for the tank to cycle. I will recommend a Seachem Ammonia Batch to easily know if the ammonia raise. Don't forget this fact, Patience. Never rush anything on this side of the hobby.

Make sure to quarantine anything you put into the tank. A little extra trouble in the beginning will save you a lot of extra trouble down the line. So many of us have learned this the hard way (and maybe more than once!).
