So I found these Chinese led fixtures online and was wondering what you all think? http://topline-led.en.alibaba.com/p...Latest_remote_3W_led_aquarium_tank_light.html.

They don't look as cheap as all the current Chinese fixtures out there now and you can also request cree leds. They are 120 watt, full spectrum, customizable ratio, dimmable and wireless. It shows the price is only 100-150 which imo is an amazing deal.

Alibaba is also a great company, I believe on their website they only sell in bulk but when I was looking into a DIY controller a lot of people had good things to say about them.

Here is a Chinese version (or close) of the two lights I just bought from LEDTRiC (inspire unit).
I think they are priced between 140-180 but not for sure as I bought mine upgraded from in the us ;) Great design and features. Mine has four channels, 5 colors, remote, linkable, built in controller and quiet running safety fans.

i wouldn't trust LEDs on alibaba...

Why? There are tons of posts and threads online showing them as an inexpensive, viable option. Just curious, can you elaborate. You do realize probably 80% of the stuff in your house is Chinese, why not tank lights also? Most of the box lights are manufactured in China anyways ;)

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that most aquarium led lighting is made in China? I was surfing alibaba probably last year and I ran across a factory that produces units that looked exactly like AI, same controller and all. Only I forgot to save the page and to this day I can't find them again.

NOOO! look again!!

Yes I do realize that majority of things nowadays are made in China. The reason I wouldn't use an LED from alibaba is because you are keeping corals (fish is a diff story) which are very sensitive to their environment so it is very important that equipments perform to the specs the manufactures stated. Many chinese manufactures simply lies about their specs and there is no way you would know if the specs are what they say they are. When a large firm outsource their productions to china they would have people to check on the quality of things...where as you as in individual would have no way of knowing if the specs are correct. You might get lucky and everything works out but people like me who keeps very expensive corals in the tank I don't want to take that chance. These LEDs are fine if you have a fish only tank or use it in a sump or something. But I wouldn't trust them on top of my red dragon acro etc. Also chinese manufactures are notorious for stealing other people's design but not quality. I mean i am sure you have seen knock off rolexes on ebays etc. Just because it looks like a rolex doesn't mean it performs like a rolex. Lastly, I have nothing personally against alibaba or Chinese products...I am Chinese myself. Like everyone else I have plenty of things that are made in China but I simply would not trust alibaba for things that quality is important.

Can you customize those lights? The specs that they listed are not full spectrum, imo. The blues are only 455nm to 470nm which is lacking violet spectrum unless I missed something. I would ask if they could add some violets in place of some of the whites.

Yeah the guy said they were customizable but said he would have to talk to the engineer to see how much it would cost.
