Hi everyone! I have never used this but it seems very useful so here I go.

I just bought a new Biocube 32, and haven’t done anything to it yet. I want to have 2 clownfish, some soft corals, and maybe an anemone down the road.

What are your suggestions for upgrades for the tank? What lighting/filtration setups have you seen work well? Thanks!

Welcome to R2R!

The Biocube is a nice unit, we like ours. For filtration some people are using the coralife media basket in the middle chamber, from some of the reviews on here they seem to really like it. The stock lights in our Biocube seemed to do well for what your wanting to do, but if your wanting to expand into the world of corals to some of the more difficult ones you will probably want to step the lights up (we installed Steve's LEDs). There are options for kits to replace the lights in the lid or you can pull the lid of and mount one. Just depends on the look your after and what you plan to do with the unit.

For my set up I'm still using the stock media basket, I'm using a poly pad that fits almost perfect with no trimming (ordered of Amazon), chemi pure elite, a little rubble and some cheato in the middle chamber, heater in the first along with a skimmer.

There is allot of friendly knowlegable people on here and allot of Biocube users on this forum, you will get allot of great ideas!

Good starter tank for sure. I would suggest you consider the Intank media basket, upgrading the stock return pump to a Sicce 1.5 and adding a ramdom flow generator nozzle. About $200 and makes a significant difference. I had pretty good coral growth (acans, lobos, moonstones, plates) with stock lights. When it came time for a protein skimmer I went with the Aquaticlife 115 which fits in the middle chamber using magnets (buy coated ones of course) or a piece of pvc pipe used for a stand (drilled out for better circulation)
Good luck

A perfect example of the knowledge sharing on this site DreWo! I will be looking at the Sicce pump for sure! Mikedawg, can you give some more info on the nozzle? I'm thinking about upgrading now. :)

I've got a Biocube 32 that I recently got and love it.

Do you have any tips, suggestions, or things you'd do differently with the BioCube? I'm thinking about setting up my first reef tank in quite a few years and this tank is on my short list of candidates.

The best upgrade I purchased for it is the InTank media basket. You'll love it.

The Biocube is a great choice and really needs nothing but a lighting upgrade to be successful.. my 2.5 year old Biocube 14 with only upgraded lighting is hands down the easiest reef I have ever kept in the 30+ years in the hobby

Ooh, that's a pretty tank. And very similar to what I have in mind for my own.

I am a relative newb, but wanted to share that I have a biocube 29 and love it. I got it second hand with the lighting already upgraded. I'm not sure if you have any interest in algae turf scrubbers, but I purchased a great ATS mod for the second chamber on ebay. It was super cheap and has done an awesome job keeping my nutrient levels really low (sometimes too low) despite my tendency to feed way too much. I also float media bags containing carbon, PhosGuard and Chemipure in the 1st chamber. Good luck with your new tank!
