I picked up a birds nest that was in rough shape. I know my water and lights are better than the lfs. It still has some strands coming from the tips and some dead bases. If it is stn, could my other corals be at risk? All others are very healthy.

Slow tissue necrosis is a symptom not a disease. Bird's nest are easy once acclimated but can take a big dive with shipping and transfer.
If you started with a poor specimen than acclimation is just that harder. My only suggestion is frag off a healthy pieces and with only good tissue. I would be surprised if the issue with the coral/Seriatopora is a disease process that will affect your other corals.

man i had so many birdsnests rtn and stn. none of it was contagious. finally dropped my alk to NSW (i have a lns) and all is well.

i think the contagious thing is because water is bad for all corals...and they eventually all tell the glass box they are done.

brown jelly is different...

No, I don't qt my corals. Since I started this thread it has stopped its decline. More time and I hope it flourishes.
