Bought a big polyp blastomussa frag from liveaquaria that came in today. I just want to get an experienced opinion if I need to contact them about any damage as it came like this, as you can see from both pictures, tiny pieces on two areas look broken or disconnected. Is this normal for frags. Will it grow back and whole again If taken care of.

Is it simply that one side of the coral has grown faster than the other making it appear that part of it is missing?

Definitely looks a little weird to me... just to be clear (the picture is kinda fuzzy) it definitely isn’t another head right?

here’s my blasto frag (sorry about my sexy) and you can see the smaller heads growing out of the side of it. If it’s this, then that’s good. The original polyp should be round with a clear middle and edge color and different textures. If it’s not a new head growing/ doesn’t look like how I just described please post clearer pics if you can :)

Unfortunately I don’t have a great camera, just my phone. It’s difficult to get a decent picture where I placed it. On left side it simply looks uneven like one part is just higher than the other. But on the right side I do not see where the circle fully completes, looks like a definite separation

Good news is since it is from their certified captive grown fragments I have 30 days to submit a claim. I’ll just keep an eye on it and take pictures every week to see how it’s doing

Yeah, I would keep an eye on it. If it starts deteriorating then definitely submit a claim. Try feeding it after a few days, if it eats then it might be okay

Looks like significant tissue recession to me; can you see skeleton? I would send back

Well they don’t allow you to send anything back. Only submit a claim for a refund, but I’m not an expert on blastomussa or what to look for as far as the skeleton so I’m not sure.
