Have never kept an anemone before, did some research before buying and picked this one up. Drip acclimated him for about an hour before I had to go to work, then came back to check on him. I noticed that his mouth is open which I've heard is either good or bad. Good: feeding ( Fed oyster eggs earlier) Bad: he may be stressing and the mouth open is the first sign of decline. Fanatical about Params, tested P04, Kh, Ca, and Mg this morning. Everything looks good. Any thoughts /advice from those with experience with Nem's? Thanks.

*cant edit title but Normal is supposed to have a ? ;)

Any input from the Nem gurus? Checked on him again, appears to be healthy, not deflated, but mouth slightly open. My apologies for the iPhone pics

looks horrible..... send him to me asap.

I would just give him a bit to settle.

Ca2or, do you keep anemones? I've read that they take a few days to settle in. He seems to be looking better, just curious on others' input on the mouth being open.

I do. In my experiences...well....it really depends on the split. I have had some ready to eat within 4 days or so while others took up to 10. Just wait till mouth heals then offer food.

wow very nice nem!

its still acclimating.
i had gotten a nem once from vegas and took it on the car ride to north cali and it was inside out when i put it into the tank and within 5 minutes of being in the tank it was all good.

it should look good overnight if not then in a few days

There's no need to feed the bta already. I would just let it settle in first. A slightly open mouth would be normal.

What I meant by ready to eat is mouth was healed. I won't sell or trade a new split unless it has fed.

I have 7 now with 2 more coming tomorrow.
Sweet, any photos?

Thanks, been looking at them for awhile, had to pull the trigger on this one when I saw it. Sparkly green/blue with purple tips.:xd: Hes tiny though-a little bigger than a quarter.

Cool thanks. Hes looking better this morning. The mouth is closed from what I can tell. Will post a couple more pics in a bit

Congrats on the nice anemone!

the anemone doing better now? it's normal for them to do that when they're acclimating. as long as you don't see it declining, it should bounce back. sometimes, it take them a few hours to adjust, sometimes a few days, sometimes a week or two before they settle in. good luck and congrats on the awesome BTA. :)

Thanks guys. He's looking a little better today, although deflated a bit after I dosed the Alk portion of two part this morning . Are these always pretty sensitive, or do they stabilize after being in the tank for awhile?

Hes looking much better now. Tried to get a better pic. ( actinics only) Initially got this for my girlfriends office tank, but now that its here, I want to keep it in my display.:xd: Also dont want to stress it out with another move/acclimation just yet. Have you guys lost any corals due to wayward Nem's wandering the tank? Thanks.

Yeah, just give it some time. It should be fine. Like previously said, it could take a week or two to get acclimated to your water conditions. They don't handle moves very well most of the time. Also keep in mind that it receives nutrients from the photosynthesis so it could look likes it's excreting waste even though it isn't eating.

Thanks. He settled into a ledge away from any corals. Hoping he stays put for a couple more months, would like to start a Nem only tank after we update to larger display.
