I added a new gbta to my tank two days ago and its hid sense its been in there when I got up this morning it was floating around my tank with its mouth gaping wide open. I have a ritteri in the tank already could they be having a chemical battle? Every thing else in the tank is fine. Could it just be having a hard time adjusting to my tank and work it out on its own? If its not better by tonight im removing it to a hospital tank. Im making new water now to set one up and ill just take a rock or two out of my DT and put it in there.

Yeah, looks like its on the doorstep to death. I would bring it to the surface and smell it. If it smells of death, remove it before it causes all kinds of water quality issues. If it smells ok, follow through with your plan.

I think you should take it out as planned. Better to be safe than sorry.

Probably a bacterial infection set in after stress of some sort. Sometimes bacterial med baths, such as nitrofurazone, help if its not too far along, but yours looks pretty far along.

This is only the second day its been in the tank can it happen that fast? How do you treat with the nitrofurazone and where can you get it?

Bacterial infections in anemones work very fast. It's hard to save them when they set in. You can sometimes get either nitrofurazone or erythromycin at your local fish store. I would make a double strong bath for what it recommends. 15 min bath then to quarantine. Good luck.

I've removed it from my dt. It's in a 5g tank with low light and A rock and a air stone. I'll keep an eye on it and try and find the meds to treat it

bjledbetter, I am so sorry to hear whats happening :(
not to put salt on a wound but not sure that the nem sitting in that bag for 9 hours until you got home may have had something to do with its decline....
I'm inclined to agree with Otter_rs

It inverted completly in the qt. Im tossing it in the morning:pout:. I know so long in the bag probably wasnt good but It couldn't be helped that was the soonest I could get home from where I was at. It looked fine when it went into the dt. Next morning I couldnt find it. found it last night and it looked not happy and I figured my clowns had been bothering it, so I moved it and blocked it off with a net so they couldnt get to it. Mouth was still fully closed at that point. And it kept getting worse and the mouth opened so before it could die in my dt or infect my health Ritteri I removed it today to qt where its all but dead. I'm not sure what happened my other bta and ritteri are fine.

I had the exact same problem with the exact anemone .input him in the first day at night and next morning he was rolling around all over the tank .what I did was put him on a large crevice on my live rock and turned of my wave makers for a day so he can attach his foot .he loved it.but then for a couple days he had his mouth gaping open he did that for a about a week until he got comfortable with the tank now he is doing great :).my local fish store also recommended I added strontium and so I did but didn't see much difference .

This one just outright died. Ive kept bta's for years and have a health ritteri now. I have no idea what caused it.

Bacterial infections are common from the stress of shipping and sometimes in conjunction with damage from removing their foot. It happens. It may not have had anything to do with how you introduced it to the aquarium or your water quality.
