New but not new!

Great to have you back as a boomerang... and I have you beat by 12 years as a time away... had a metal frame tank and was trying to grow Aptasia as an accomplishment....

Great Frame and spectacular setting, and agree you may regret not having the space up top for cleaning - is there a means to raise the lights for maintenance?

Can't wait to see the evolution - excitement is palpable

Oh, and great wife for getting you back into the hobby...
Its her bloody persistance that im doing it again ! I could cry, but i know the result 6 months from now will be spectacular, I am so exicted to start building the lifestock element however, it will take 12 months for it start looking anything like we envisage, its kind of like watching picasso paint a piece of art, all just a mess of colours at the beginning but then all coming together later down the line to create this amazing masterpiece!

I must remember at all times that we keep water, not livestock........

UPDATE:

So guys, thanks for all your advice so far, i've just picked up the sump today and positioned the hardware i currently have in there. i'm still toying with the idea of an algae reactor, but haven't done it so far.

My initial concerns are:

The filter roller motor housing is below the water level, so clearly this needs elevating, any ideas how to do this?
Is the skimmer at the right height or does this need lifting too?
return pump and apex probes (yes i decided to go apex in the end) and heater in final compartment. i also have teh D-D auto top up in this section (is this right?) i'll propbably swap that for apex's version at some stage after tank is comissioned and wife gives up on questioning me on the spend.... :O

finally, any other suggestions before we start to plumb it all together in the sump department?

Thanks in advance guys!

hi all.

I will post an update shortly on how the tank is performing (i'm very happy!) however, i have a small issue.....

The level in the tank and sump vary almost daily it can run for 3-4 days consistently, but then the sump level will increase whilst the DT level will drop by 5mm. there are no blockages in outlet pipe, roller filter is fine, and no blockages to return pump.

Being an engineer, I am inclined to think that the variance in input voltage is affecting the output impeller speed, thus attenuating/accentuating the flow. The pump in question is a Jecod DCP-8000, a DV pump which we have set to a particular level to balance the incoming flow from the DT.

Has anyone else seen this variance in output volume with reference to input, if so how did you deal with the stability to enable the use of ATO?

If not, what else can amend the levels this substantially when it can be stable for days....
