Hello all! So I am wanting to get better pictures and videos of my reef. The iPhone camera works but it isnt great. I have done quite a bit of research and decided to go with a nikon D3500. My question to everyone that uses cameras what do you do about the blue, Uv light? It really washes out the video/picture and makes it look bland. Some tanks loom amazing on camera. Curious what lenses people use. Do you just slap an orange filter on the end?

Im not very camera savy. But buy one where you can change the white balance and ios settings.

Plus there are a few youtube things

@samparker also has some great tips scattered throughout his posts and YouTube videos.

Adjusting the white balance manually will eliminate the over blue bland look unless you run your lights really really blue. I use a 8? year old Canon ti3 and for both pictures and video I get pretty true colours.
I have a t3i too- so, just white balance ? You don’t have an orange filter?

Thanks

No orange filter. I really dislike the look of filters. While they eliminate some blue they make every other colour look unrealistic as well.
True for the consumer grade stuff. I guess I need to dial my blues back a bit for photos- I get a ‘range error’ when I load my ‘grey pic’ into the custom white balance setting.

Thanks!!
