The wife and I were out yesterday and spotted an amazing carpet anemone. So some details.. we got it 9-25-11 its roughly 6 inches in diameter.. haven't seen it fully out.. maybe saying 8-10 inches is more accurate. Anyway here is a pic..

Oh BTW the tank is a 54g corner.. also the pic with 9 images was suppose to show the flow of the tank, but didn't come out like I was hoping.

are we all looking at the same pics?

how long has your tank been set up in that last set of shots the mouth is open very wide.

What kinda lights.

Tank has been running for 8 months, lights include 2 T5 10k and 2 actinics.

I have raised questions about the mouth being open, and have been told it could still be acclimating. The mouth was closed at the lfs, but their sg was really low compared to mine (1.020 lfs mine 1.025-1.026). I hope everything is ok with it, it is eating and has a strong hold on a rock. Foot is half buried half on rock, will this pose any issues?

8 months isnt really long enough for a tank to be set up for a haddons carpet they need a mature tank.

They also like low flow and strong light. What kind of lighting do you have?

The mouth gaping is a sign of stress if its eating thats a good sign.

Get a better pic of the mouth now and it should bury its foot deep in the sand.

Ok I'll have to get the pic when I get home. I have been looking up signs of death or decay or whatever. I can see inside the mouth when it is open, the flesh is like a tunnel, nothing protruding nothing spilling out. It is also relieving itself of waste, and from what I can tell does so pretty regularly. When it does expel waste, there are tiny white/clear bubbles attached to the waste. Are these just its way of wiping? Also, about the foot, from what I can tell from when I first put it in the tank, the foot has burried more in the sandbed. I would say about 1/4 - under 1/2 is still on the rock. It has good movement and isn't flat or deflated like a lot of the people with dying ones describe.

On the lighting.. I did mention in my last post I was running 2 T5 10k's and 2 actinics. Is there more specific lighting requirements your are requesting?

About the flow.. I know they like low-med flow but I have a 54g corner tank and have a hydor evolution 750gph powerhead (not in use) and a koralia 2 600pgh power head (using) when I kick on the 750, the sides of the carpet lift off the sandbed.. Assuming this is way to much flow I have not plugged it back in. With that being said the 600gph seems to make good movement of the carpet (swaying motion) but this powerhead doesn't help with the rest of the tank. Do you think I should invest in a couple 550gph hydors instead of trying to place the 750?

Yea he looks like he is struggling a little.. Haddoni Carpet Anemones are one of the hardest to keep except for maybe Heteractis Magnificent Sea Anemone.. They require a large tank, lots of light, and good flow and perfect water conditions. They are also fish eaters.

Well I am hoping it is adjusting to the shipping/transport and handling. It has only been 2 days, so I guess I will just monitor it closely.

Everything I have read says 2 T5 10k's are suffecient for these......... and I mean everything.

Did you buy it from a store or online?

If you bought it from a LFS, they really shouldnt have sold you it. If its a vendor on here id be even more suprised.

Haddons are the easiest of carpets that are readily available to keep. Mertens is the easiest and hardyest. Magnificas and giganteas are the worst.

Haddonis reqiure low flow, high light. T-5s are ok but a 4 bulb would be better. 2 bulbs on a high tank like that lose intensity the higher the tank is.

Leave the flow off and give it time. Sometimes open mouth can be acclimation but alot of times it indicates stress. What have you fed it.

You need to make sure it burys its foot deep in the sand.

Well... let me start by saying.. LFS was... Petco, I just had to get it out of there. I knew I was stepping into a huge challenge when I bought it, and I know the challenges that lay ahead. I do plan to upgrade my lighting here in the next couple months.. staying with T5's. So far all I have fed it are mysis shrimp, I read that when it is stressed to feed it smaller sized meals to help with digestion. Is there anything I can do to assist it burying it's foot? Will peeling it off the rock cause damage to the foot?

It depends on the depth of the tank. the deeper your tank, the less PAR/intensity you get. 2 T5 might be OK if it is shallow tank, like 12-14 inches deep. I see that on LFS's but IMO not for prolonged period of time or you'll starve the zooanthellae's.

So with that being said would 4 T5's be enough?

I could remove the actinics and replace them with 2 10k's

4 T5, 2 10k and 2 Actinics I would suffice. But if you want color to pop, higher intensity like Kessil LED and the like would be recommended.
