New Clam Mantle Extension

The incurrent siphon js facing the rock so unfortuantley cant really see.

Sometimes, with enough shipping stress, they can take on a retracted look for a while, it happens to me every now and then. So long as it's responsive, and you have completely ruled out pests, it should be alright.

Well spoke to soon. I tjink it is a goner or will be when i wake up tomorrow morning. Not sure if i should get it out of the tank now or just let the crabs eat it.

Here is a better shot

That incurrent siphon is no good. Wait until it shrivels, then test it by squeezing the shell. If it just lays lifelessly, then it's done, and remove it before it starts to rot.

It's a goner! Just file a report for a refund.
With a close up picture the clam itself was not a healthy clam in the first place before DD shipped to you, there is no new shell margin show its growing under DD care facility.
At least my Squamosa very responsive to light and fish movement around it, its just not fully open yet.

My Diver's Den Blue Squamosa was the same, no new shell margin. Although, the clam shell was pretty clean though, so it was hard to tell what was new and what was not.

I took it out last night. It was barely responding and was just listless. Got a credit back to my account so will try another one when the weather warms up. I think it may have been a shipping issue rather than LA selling bad clams. This was the second one i got as the first one was delayed by UPS and froze. I picked this one up at the facility to avoid any delays. I just think these little clams dont ship very well.

Sorry about the clam. On your next clam don't be to overly concerned with the incurrent siphon if it's really opened. On a new clam it's acclimating and our older squamosa would open up large when taking in and filrltering in water. It's confused with "gaping". I'd look up some articles from James fatheree, really good reads. Here's a pic of our blue squamosa during acclimation and after.

Ugh, hope i didnt take it out to soon.

Hard to say. When the clam was acclimating it didn't have near the strength or reaction it did weeks later. Sometimes it's best to let them be. Shipping is hard on clams then they have to adjust to new parameters, temp, lighting. Could take a bit. I always recommend acclimating on the bottom and as long as the clam isn't falling over I don't intervine.

Well, since this thread about clams from DD so I'll update my here as well until it's back to normal, or it's gonna perish in next few days.
Today it's wide open but mantle not extend much and no gasping...but it's not responsive!
Squamosa 2.jpg

Color look pretty much same to me, no color lost or bleached, the only issue making me worry is that It's not respond to anything like cover the light above it and it just sat there motionless.

Our large squamosa wouldn't flinch at shadows or light changes for 4 years. It would only respond if you picked it up or tried to move it. Other clams we've had were extremely sensitive. You clam looks healthy, I wouldn't worry to much.

The only thing that seemed really odd was wjen i looked through the siphon i could see the sand bed in through the clam. It alsmost looked like it was starting to separate from the front.

I don't think so, take a look 1 of DD clam that open like that a day later after arrived, picture below.

look dead 1.jpg

a night later and its become this....
dead 2.jpg

I was sure it's in dead phase in the first picture but I just leave it in my tank and hope it full through but it didn't make it...at least it generated some food for other inhabitants lol.

My 2nd clam is a goner too after 13 days, wide open and mantle shrunk into it shell.

I'm not going to buy anymore clams from DD in future.
