I recently bought a green star polyp, it arrive damaged and wasn’t impressed. It was obviously closed because of the stress but hasn’t seem to open up yet. I noticed when I first got it, it has tiny green tentacles on it but they have now gone brown. It came 3 days ago.

-I don’t have any other corals only 2 clowns and 2 snails
- water premieres are stable, only ph was low (7.7 but it’s fixed now)
- i have a zeolite light
- there is a lot of flow in the tank
- I only floated the bag and there was a big salt diffence from my tank to its container.

If any one can tell me what’s happening or what I can do to open it up that would be great. I will post photos if that helps.

Nothing you can do but just wait. Mine took a week to open up

Photos always help. These shouldn’t be brown. If brown, I’d be concerned. Did you acclimate it properly? Especially with lighting and a lower pH?

How so was it damaged?

It arrived with pieces broken off. Here is a image, you can’t really tell it’s got brown on it, but where it was green it has turned brown.

Is it the purple piece? Can you bend it 180°? As in super soft to the touch?

That doesn’t look good. How did you acclimate it ?

1.027 in the bag 1.021 in my tank
I’d consider 1.027 too high and 1.021 too low. Therein lies the problem. Mostly. Slowly being your tank up to 1.025 at least. Keep in mind that this is a soft coral.

You need to acclimate coral to the tank and raise the salinity to 1.026. I would hold off on coral until you do all your research and have the tank ready.

Some friend told me that in there tank that’s all they do for soft corals and he said his are fine. I will do more research on has to acclimate them properly.

It’s quite hard it feels like I can break it if I twist it. What’s does this mean.
If it’s glued to something, I can see that. But this is a soft coral. They almost can wrap around your finger out of water. I’ve seen people glue them at a 90° angle from rock to glass.

I’m just going to say that IME, soft corals are more finicky than LPS. Besides zoas and shrooms, other softies aren’t as forgiving.

What may work for others might not work for you. If you feel like you can do what your friend is doing then that’s great
