I just received two new corals from Whitecorals today. A rainbow bubbletip anemone and an elegance coral. The anemone roamed around for a while before settling down in a cave under a rock. Do you think the elegance looks happy where I placed it? Do I need to feed both? What food and how often? Thanks

Great!. Yes you need to feed the anemone. Give a small piece of meaty food (small piece of raw cut shrimp/prawn) every day. You will see how well it will grow overtime.

In terms of the elegance, sorry I cannot comment. Never kept one before. Cheers and hope you enjoy your new corals!

Elegance looks happy to me!! Mines almost identical and when hes happy his tentacles swell up (like yours is doing). What kind of light are you running?

Hi, thanks. That's another question I always have. Lighting. I run 8X39 ATI T5 bulbs. 4 blue plus, 2 coral plus, one purple, one actinic. It'a a 75 gallon tank, 48 cm high with the bulbs about 25 cm from the water surface. Does it sound OK? Too much?

Whew! Im an LED guy, you will need to wait for someone that knows T5s better than me for that.
I will say my elegance is in a pretty high flow, but low even lighting.

Re: feeding anemone - I disagree with @my.PsychReef s advice. Let it acclimate to your tank for a couple of weeks then feed it like once a week - everyday is way too much. Some folks don't feed them at all, they catch alot of excess in the tank.

This. FYI - the more u feed it, the higher chance it'll split. If u don't want it to split too often, feed it once/month or never (esp if ur feeding frozen)

I understand the more you feed it/split info - I have eleven of them 10 years old. I was just stressing the fact to have him let it get acclimated to its' surroundings before poking food down its throat.

Well every tank is different and different feeding habits are practiced by different hobbyists. As long as the nem is thriving and healthy that’s what matters. Nothings wrong with feeding daily with small meaty food. Those who don’t feed generally feed the entire tank heavily. Which means they are still getting fed which is good. Either way it depends on the hobbyists and the tank itself. Cheers!

Just so you know, Anemones aren't a coral :) And I feed my anemones uncooked shrimp, thaw out a piece of shrimp and cut a little piece off. Don't put it directly on the anemone's mouth but rather on the tentacles so if he is hungry he'll pull it to his mouth and if not he can easily reject it. But you'll want him to settle down before you feed him, don't feed him on the move.
I'm unsure of the elegance coral, I've never kept them before.
But you should try and look into any animal before buying... find out things like what they eat and how often they need to be fed before buying. If they aren't researched beforehand then you could end up buying a critter that requires much more then your capable of. I made that mistake before but was luckily able to fix it. Good luck and let us know how they do!

Thanks!!! I just fed them both half a cube of thawed mysis shrimp each. The anemone gobbled the whole thing up and turned itself inside out for a while...now is turning itself back again and looking quite happy. The elegance, which I researched can also be fed the same type of food occasionally, is a slow eater. Grabbed the food and closed around it and is still kind of sucking it in. So far...so good

Great! I’m glad he’s doing well :) Yeah I remember when I fed my anemone for the first time... it gave me a heart attack XD they’re weird creatures.

That’s good. Sometimes they tend to swell around their oral cavity area when they try to eat. Very interesting to see. Hope you enjoy these beautiful marine life. Cheers! :)
