I am new to the hobby this year and am ready to try my first corals in my tank. What is a good first coral to start with. I would also like some anemonies as well. I just think it will compliment my clown fish, even if they didn't use them, I still like them.

head for some zoas and try um out - always a good 1st coral and pretty to boot

mushrooms, leathers, and many lps. let your tank mature for at least six months for nems. some will say a year as they usually don't do well in new tanks.

Thanks guys I will look at those and probably wait a little longer as this is right around 6mo. old.

Duncans, zoas, candy canes, euphyllia and cynarinas are all really cool :)
Plates are awesome too, but can be a little more tricky than the others. Heliofungias/long tentacle plates look like anemones and fungias/short tentacle plates are way fun to feed!

I tried Green Star, Favia sp (Brain Coral) and Zoa fairly forgiving and will self right when you get your prams out of whack then fix them.

Its good to know that things don't have to be absolutely perfect. I am glad there are some hardy varieties to try.

I went frag shopping last night and one of the ones that caught my eye was the clownfish nem. Really beautiful. Do they need high flow as well?

Id spend a little $$ and pick up some utter chaos palys. I wish I had done that for my first zoa... Now I have a rock with 400 polyps of some green zoanthid worth nothing :) If I had 300 polyps of utter chaos id be rich
