It's a snail type thing.
 
Yes, they will eat algae. They also multiple like crazy.....you normally only see them when the lights are off. They are a good member of your CUC.
 
Yah when I bought my live rock I guess they were hiding in it haha because I turned my light on to see show my tank I was like um... I didn't buy snails.

The stomatellas in my reef routinely feed my corals in addition to eating algae.
 
The life only continues to multiply as the tank matures. A good investment for watching it is an LED flashlight with a red filter. Wait until the tank and room have been dark a while then shine it in there, you will see all kinds of stuff.
