New cube

I recently picked up a jbj nano cube for $25. The hood had a severe short and the ballast burnt out. It fried the clear plastic shield that covers the lights. Burnt out the light fixture and fans are seized up. I am planning to reconstruct the hood with ebay based things. My fiancé said i can't do it. So you know I'm going to do this if it kills me. Since I'm on a budget i plan to do a lot of bargain shopping and diy things. I'm possibly going to attempt a diy protein skimmer from some acrylic tubes and other things i have laying around. My budget is 100 for hardware and substrate. I will keep everyone posted and i will be posting pictures. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. Oh and by the way, this one will be a sea horse, invertebrates aquarium

Since the lid is fried, why not go with a pendant light?

Seahorses need colder temps than reef tanks, make sure you take that into account (chiller,ac,fans etc).

Lid is in perfect condition but it's guts are gone. I just ripped everything out and got a blank canvas to work with. I want to keep this tank in the bedroom. Might look into a pendant light but if i could use the hood, I'm going for it. [emoji4]

Any corals going to be in it? If not just plants you could probally find a used small coral life compact for cheap as dirt. I see em in the lfs for like 20bucks...im positive it could be modified to mount in the hood with some work

I'm not sure yet on the corals. I got some replacement fans coming from Hong Kong for like 6 bucks. I gotta wait until the end of the month but i think i can successfully set up withing my budget. I'm checking on a plant/reef light for like 20 bucks also. Let's hope

Also my fiance and mine's deal is that everything has to stay under the hood
