So I set up my new system, had is cycle for a few days in fresh water and all was good. Added salt all good still then about a week ago I added a single pallet of cichlid food, it's breaking down still in the main display. Wish I'd put it in the sump.

My question is around a few small spots of brown algae growing in the glass.

I've now added a fresh fish bit of fresh seafood to kick start the nitrogen cycle but the brown spots were there before I did that.

I've still got very low ammonia levels - like 0.25ppm (hoping this will start to change with more fresh seafood breaking down over the next week or two)

Light is running about 8 hours a day.

I know brown algea isn't that bad and will happen on new tanks - what's caused it? the Cichlid food and light?

should I just leave it and once the tank is cycling it should just go away?

reduce light levels in the mean time of again don't worry.

I agree even cycling i found myself wanting to stare at my tank but algae needs light to grow so i would gaze around a bit then shut them back off. Didn't have a bit of algae until I learned i was heavy handed on feeding.
